Downhole String Design
Workstrings® engineers work alongside global customers and are available for support through every stage of planning and execution. We strive to solve complex operational challenges, manage risk, and optimize the drill string or completion string and associated equipment for each project or situation.

For Deeper Wells, Steeper Angles, Bigger Challenges
Workstrings helps operators design for some of the world’s most challenging wells, including deepwater, deep gas, unconventional, sour service, remote locations, and extended reach horizontals. With thousands of designs completed, our engineering team has the experience to ensure absolute string integrity. We use industry-leading stiff string torque and drag modeling software and in-house specialty tool and pipe design capabilities to lead the industry in meeting and exceeding the project’s needs.
Drill String Design
Our team will help you accurately plan and configure your drill string, completion string, landing string, or open water riser. That includes determining the right size, weight, and material for the pipe, along with the selection of handling tools and accessories. Our engineering team can work with you to:
- Evaluate expected torque and drag through modeling
- Consider completion fluid properties for ROB, TIH, POOH, and other operational modes.
- Assess buckling severity, side loading force, slip crushing capacity, and hydraulics
- Optimize on critical parameters
- Sensitize according to specific variables
- Calibrate torque and drag modeling based on actual drilling parameters
- Provide pressure drop and ECD for each drill string to determine optimal drill pipe option
Completion String Design
Once drilling is done, effective completion design is critical to project success. We’ll help assess various completions phases and each of the planned completion string configurations to ensure that required parameters are met before operations commence. Our engineering team can work with you to:
- Evaluate string design and configurations for the provided well path
- Consider completion fluid properties for ROB, TIH, POOH, and other operational modes
- Assess torque and drag, buckling severity, set down load on packer, side loading force, and slip crushing capacity of each segment
- Optimize on critical parameters
- Sensitize according to specific variables
- Calibrate torque and drag modeling based on actual completion operation parameters
Landing String Design
Our team will help you determine the optimal string configuration to run and land your heavy casing strings, ensuring that the landing string and handling tools successfully support the weight. Our engineering team can work with you to:
- Assess requirements of completion landing string or intervention riser
- Design and optimize a landing string for each casing or liner run
- Evaluate your landing string for slip crushing capacity using the actual slips planned for the operation.
Real Results, Real Feedback
“We needed 15,000 feet of drill pipe inspected to Cat. V FLUT, coated with Rust Grip OD coating, and bucked into doubles—all completed in under four days. Both Workstrings and Superior Inspection Services went above and beyond, and we are grateful for the efficiency and quality of their work in meeting our difficult turnaround to keep our project on track.”
